The sound of the analogue studios

Think of the deep, punchy, dead-dry snare you hear on the great records of the seventies and early eighties. Together with Italian drummer and percussionist Leo Di Angilla we built the Sombrero DUB to recreate exactly that sound, in a limited edition.

How it works

Lay it on the snare or on a tom and the Sombrero lowers the dominant note of the drum by about two tones, removes the ring and gives you a fat, controlled sound. Unlike a towel or a gel, you can still play fast rolls and rimshots exactly as on a normal head. On toms it cancels the long tail and makes tuning easier. It is like having a second snare drum one gesture away.

DUB edition

The fabric of this model is thicker than the other Sombreros (0.20 mm) to emphasise the “big pillow” effect typical of the 70s/80s snare. A side tab lets you remove it instantly, and because the Sombrero covers the head, the head itself stops wearing out.
